Hello Father Peter
Venice, Ca United States of America - Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at 14:33:17 (PDT)
To Whom It May Concern- My father has recently had a stroke and spent three weeks in the hospital. He might recover but it is more than likely that he is in the last stages of Graves disease. It is heartbreaking that my father has not returned to Greece in over fifty years. He was sent from Athens to Chicago just after WWII ended because of the communist take over. As a result of the war my gradfather was bruitally murdered and my grandmother died of grief. This left my father an orphan with out a country and angry at God. I am glad that after all of these years my father will return to the church to make his peace with our Lord and hopefully gain forgiveness. Please pray for my father that he might find love for God once again as we remember our Lord's greatest sacrifice.

An important "edit" could not be made, to change the error error I made: The third pargraph from the end should say, "There is no replacement to receiving the Sacraments in church." I am sorry I omitted the word "no". Serghi Serghis 4-8-2000
Highlands, nj us - Sunday, April 09, 2000 at 12:43:26 (PDT)
I am grateful that during the aftermath of a small snowstorm in NJ at Sandy Hook, I was able to tune in to services. It is a welcome addition to those in nursing homes and those unable to go out to church on Sunday. I am grateful that I am well, and am one of the founders of Kimisis Tis Theotokou, in Holmdel, NJ. We started meeting in restuarants, then converted a school gymnasium into a church every Sunday. With the grace of God, and His beneficent guidance and spirit, we now have a beautiful Basilican style church; and the efforts of our parishioners and Fr George Dounelis, we are now planning many religious and cultural affairs to take place in our Community Center. I hope the people who were on the webb, and were unable to hear you, give it another try. When I was in Korea, in the late 50's, it took me 2 and 1/2 hours to get to St Nicholas in Seoul, Korea, and the Orthodox parish there that was built by the UN forces. Of course you know of the church, and the articles on the epitaphio that was returned there after more than 50 years of safekeeping, here in the US, that were in the Observer and the Missioary magazine. So the importance of your site to the armed services and those far from home, but of course, there is replacement to receiving the Sacraments, in person in church. But the webb certainly serves as an educational primer. Thanks, to all of you in silicon valley, and the churches, for making the spread of the internet, available to humanity. But for the Grace of god we'd be tuned into something else. Before signing off, I hope that the word is being spread on the GWHS Alumni Assn and the work it is doing, as mentioned 2 weeks ago, March 26th, when I first signed on as a visitor. Happy Easter to all. Serghi Serghis

I was thrilled to see that we have a website like this one for the Greek communities. It is very informative. I am an American of Greek descent. I am a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, Massachusetts. Due to a devastating fire that happened last April 1999, which burned down to the ground. We will be rebuilding at a new location in Dracut, Massachusetts. We hope it will be completed by May of 2000, With the help of God we will get there. God Bless All

Dear members of Belmont Holy Cross Church in Calif, I went into 'enter', and brought up the file, and everything came out fine, which I immediately printed. And I belong to George Washington HS Alumni Assn. in NYC, we are trying to regroup the former students, in some way so we can help the students and graduates with new prospects for their future, both ecomically and spiritually. I have took the initiative along with Almus Wilson, the Pres. of the Assn, and tried to reach the former students who lived in Washington Heights, NY, to enlist their aide as mentors, and teachers; the older generation has a lot to impart to the new, because of their experiences and knowledge. The area once abounded with Greek Orthodox, but since have moved away to NJ around other parts of the country and the world. I greatly appreciate the opportunity you are giving me to pass this message on. Our e-mail site is

By the way, I know how to click on 'file', then 'save as', the save in a certain folder, then to rename the new folder, and then to align left, all the words going over the right margin. But in netscape, is there anyway I can receive your messages without it going over the right margin? Thank you and God Bless.

I believe in an active church not one dormant due to lack of zealousness on the part of the laity - we all have a responsibility to do evangilization - and with the Lords blessing our efforts will bear Fruit. your servant in Christ - Sava

I looked on the web site for a way to request a stewardship form. I can't find a way to request it, or, perhaps I need to request it through a request like this. I'm not sure if it's required to formally register my contribution for the year. I have usually written a check to "Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross", but I normally don't use a "form" or "card" from Holy Cross. Lately, I'm staring to think that all the contributions that I've made over the years have not been formerly registered since I have not used this form. Geoge Kotsovolos

GOHOLYCROSS.ORG received its 20000th hit this week! Congratulations to those who established the site and those who have worked hard to maintain it. Having such a web presence is a key element in our community's readiness to face the new millennium. Over the next several months, I hope our entire Holy Cross family will consider additional Church needs, particularly the "crying" (literally) need for additional classroom space for our Sunday and Greek Schools, which, in turn, could be used by a Holy Cross Elementary School. I look forward with great anticipation to the future accomplishments of our truly special community.

Hello, I am from a protestant background. I have been studying church history, and studying all the different types of churches we have today. We are all brothers in Christ and we should all be one church. We all need to learn to work together for Christ. God's kingdom should not be divided. Let's all learn to work together for Christ; whether orthodox, lutheran, methodist, baptist, or church of christ. The world is confused by our divisions.

Christ has Risen... Truly he has risen, Despite the rigors of having their children attend two different colleges in the state of Ohio, my parents, Dr. Gus, and Linda Mouhlas, always made it a point to be with their children, John and Angela, during the Easter Holiday. However this year their oldest child, John (me) is studying medicine in Guadalajara, Mexico. I was extremely elated when I found your site on the internet because during my stay in Guadalajara, I have been without the aid of my church, its members, or our beliefs. I come form a small perish in Wheeling, West Virginia, a community in which everyone knows everyone else, a community in which the children grow up respecting their elders, and a community in which our Divine Leader, Father Sperio, preaches with energy and love for his community. Being without my family or community of 250 Greek Orthodox families, has been a hard experience for me; however, I am extremely pleased that innovative people like yourselves have made viewing the Divine Liturgy and other Feast Days possible. With all my love, JC Mouhlas

I am a theology student in Melbourne, Aust. currently working on ecumenism and orthodox involvement. After several failed attempts to attend an orthodox service here I have indeed been blessed by the discovery of this site. As one who has merely 'read' a lot of literature about orthodox doctrine and practices it has been a privilege to listen to the beautiful Divine Liturgy. THANK YOU! Many thanks and much appreciation to Terry, Hilton, Fr. Peter, Fr.Chris, Chris Canellos, and the many others responsible for the outreach that your internet broadcast of the Sunday service provides. Being up quite late last night (morning?), and still needing to finish work on some systems here (and admittedly being lazy and sleeping in) I skipped out on church this morning, but remembered your broadcast. While it's not a substitute for going to church, at least it provides an opportunity to participate from a distance, and pray with you all during the service. Thank you steve pallad
Jo Ann Sterling <jas1882@earthlink.net>
Your services are coming through loud and clear on Realaudio this morning. You did a great job of upgrading! Thank you. I've missed participating in the services with you. Jo Ann Sterling

I'm happy to see a web site on Orthodox Religion. Welcome Holy Cross. I found your web site by an article I was writing for the church. I have found a lot of imformation on the Religion's teachings. I belong to St. Jude shrine of Barberton, Ohio. Thank You,

Fabulous website Fr. Peter and Holy Cross parish! I finally learned about your site from the Orthodox Observer. From looking through the guestbook (and seeing that old friends like Steve Pallad and even the Chairman of my Firm, George Shaheen, visited in 1997), it appears I'm a bit of a late-comer, but none the less blessed to now be a cyber-parishoner. Thank you for such a wonderful gift and keep up the great work.
Patrick Powalinsky <pdp96a@timon.acu.edu>
Glory to Jesus Christ ! Glory Forever ! I commend your congregation on the extensive web page. As an Ukrainian-Canadian Orthodox Christian studying at an American college, where I travel 110 miles (one way) to attend church, I often browse the vast amounts of information obtained on the net about Orthodoxy. I am particularly interested obtaining contemporary Orthodox Christian music. Recently, a friend told me of the works done from Jimmy Santis of your congregation. I would like to obtain his CD albums "Signs of Miracle" and Living Water". One could e-mail me back with information about where to obtain these CD's. My e-mail address is:

Just a short note as the New Year begins to thank you for providing us access to the Liturgy each Sunday. Although we are physically some distance away, we can picture the church as we listen. Best wishes and Happy New Year to our friends at Holy Cross. Kenn, Elaine and Alexander Cunningham, and Claire Neofotistos.

Excellent web site which we'll visit more often. My family and I go to St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Sterling Heights, and today, because of the massage snowstorm that hit the midwest, we just finished digging out our driveway and were unable to attend liturgy. But because of the beauty of time zones, we still we able to enjoy the liturgy today via the internet. Thank you again and may you have continued success with you parish and this web site.Chris Canellos <cecanellos@aol.com> San Mateo, Ca USA - Monday, December 21, 1998 at 10:06:32 (PST)
Congratulations WWW.GOHOLYCROSS.ORG on your 10000th hit this morning!! This is a remarkable achievement for a truly incomparable website, reflecting an equally incomparable community. This week, the love and vitality of Holy Cross truly shine through. We began last night with a truly magical evening of carols and merriment commemorating Father Peter's 50th birthday. God bless all our talented young people, who played musical instruments and sang and added so much to the Christmas spirit. Tonight, our families will mass for an evening of Family to Family sharing when we will bring Christmas joy to many local families who are far less fortunate in things of the material world. Many of us will leave those homes with a far more important gift -- the love and joy we will receive in embracing a family we had not previously met and a reminder of the great abundance God has provided for us. Tuesday, many of us will go caroling through the Belmont and San Mateo areas and get in the true spirit of Christmas. And of course attend the inspiring liturgy services of the Nativity on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. To all at Holy Cross, including those in our new electronic family at GOHOLYCROSS, a Joyous Christmas and the Best Ever in 1999!!!

Glory to the Father and the Son and to the Holy Spirit forever and to the ages of ages AMEN!!! This site is truly an inspiration and may God bless you with His peace this Holy Nativity Lenten period. I was raised the daughter of a Wesleyan minister and the Lord led me to Orthodoxy almost 5 years ago. Praise His Holy name! I am thirsty for information and learning the Faith. I often feel very 'unwelcome' in my own parish as I am not Greek and this site provides for me a very positive resource for learning. It is such a shame to be a witness to the 'Greek-only' mentality at my parish and to see the many people who have left the church because of the lack of acceptance. Love acceptance and inclusion is the very essence of Christ and His Holy Apostolic Church. The Orthodox church is such a 'hidden treasure' in America and it is a shame that not more is being done to carry the truth to the American people. We are a mission church and yet to have Divine Liturgy in Greek only will not reach the people if they do not understand. Did the Disciples go out to the other nations and not speak their tongue? No they brought the faith in the native language for the people to understand and come to Christ.. Please pray for our parish at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church that the light of Christ's love and peace that passeth all understanding may fill the hearts of all the people at the parish. Blessings to you for your outreach, and in all your endeavors. a sinner ruth

Found your web via goarch which I receive daily. Our church, St. George, Bethesda, made an effort to develop a web site and I will pass on your good work for a second effort. I'm Pres. of Philoptochos and the society should also try a web or chat room--there's a great deal to share.
Subdeacon Herman <marc_blaydoe@bigfoot.com>
Glory to Jesus Christ. May our Lord richly bless your efforts in His service!
Archimandrite Leonidas Gouideris <leo@lim.forthnet.gr>
I am very impressed with what I read and of your pastoral work among the youth of your Parish and I am sure we in Greece have a lot to learn from your example. Our newly elected Archbishop Christodoulos of Athens and all Greece is doing all he can to bring the youth closer to the Church. I am the Administrator of the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity on the island of Lemnos. We have a Parish Center where youth groups meet and Sunday School is conducted. Also we have reading rooms and a lending library, although we are relying on people to donate books. Keep up your good work as a witness of Orthodoxy

<Mmetrop@aol.com> I am very happy to see that the Guest Book is back. It is very enjoyable reading comments from near and far and especially gratifying to know that many people are able to "tune in" to the Holy Liturgy on Sundays from our church. Being a member of the Holy Cross Choir for many years makes it is doubly gratifying to know that people who are unable to attend church can hear the hymns and "sing along" at home.
Father Peter Salmas
<frpeter@goholycross.org> I wish to thank all our listeners and those who have sent or tried to send a message through our guestbook, for your efforts. Unfortunately, the Guestbook has been 'down' for the last few months, precisely from September 8, 1998. It has finally been fixed, so I hope. I look forward to receiving your notes, messages, and encouragement to this newest and most unconventional means of spreading the word of our Lord and the faith and tradition which is ours in Eastern Orthodoxy. Please don't hesitate to write us. I will endeavor to respond, sharing in joy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen

<canellos@leland.stanford.edu> Congratulations and thanks to everyone who made the 1998 Belmont Greek Festival a tremendous success!! The food was incredible, delicious and so much variety!! The Fun Zone for the kids truly lived up to its name with plenty of new fun things like the kiddy cars. And the entertainment was superb and virtually nonstop. And our young people really stole the show with a most heart warming play and all the Greek dancing exhibitions. The Festival Ensemble was outstanding and so was Bouzouki Express. Can't wait to see what's in store for the 1999 Festival.

I had the pleasure of seeing your parish while visiting relatives in the Bay Area last year and was very impressed.I would like to listen to your webcast of the divine liturgy sometime but due to the time difference (it would be 1am Monday here)I would miss it. Will it be recorded so that it can be played back at a later time?

<jbonnage@worldnet.att.net> Wonderful web site! As a Byzantine Catholic (Roman Catholic Father and Greek Orthodox mother (Greek, German, Irish, French, etc. descent, i.e., an American), I am so happy to find a place where the Gospel of Christ as understood through the Greek-Speaking Fathers (and Mothers) of the Church is presented in decent American English. May the Lord bless all who strive to announce the Gospel of Christ to those who truly need it. As a Greek Orthodox priest friend said to me recently, "We have much to answer for....". "Let us love one another...." and hope that the Lord will forgive us our silly squabbles and let us live the Gospel before those who do not yet believe. (Happy feast of St. Elias; Lord knows, we need his help now.)

HardGains@aol.com> I am seeking likeminded Orthodox who also pray to see modern theologians and clergy address terms such as "theosis," "exhomoiosis," "perichoresis," as essential to popular Orthodox language from the pulpits and the pews in the new era of the Church. Rather than hinge Orthodoxy on ethnic parochialism, maybe we can sprout new shoots into the oikoumene of a cosmic, shared Orthodox language that speaks to today's issues in the same way our holy fathers and mothers did throughout Holy Tradition. Holy Tradition is today but not as it was yesterday; Holy Tradition is not yesterday. The Holy Spirit speaks today in today's vernacular. My heart grieves that we've not a united, equal and equitable Orthodox spiritual voice for all and in all. Perhaps I am praying for too much. Orthodox Christianity is "the faith that established the oikoumnene," called to transform the inner person AND transfigure the world. This is our legacy.
Ellis Pierce
<piercee@cvn.net> Great site! Have you considered publishing cassettes of Orthros and Liturgy (preferably in English). Although there are recordings from the festal cycles, what I would like to have when I am on the road is a set that corresponds approximately to the services for the day. I know that not every Sunday is Orthros Gospel 2, Tone 3, and St Eudoxia, but that is a better match for July 12 than the Nativity or Pascha. Keep up the good work and Christ be with you!

<cehlers@mindspring.com> Greetings. I greatly enjoyed your web site. It is very well done. I am a Protestant - a United Methodist - but during the last months I have been reading Orthodox web sites and books about Orthodoxy, everything I can find. I feel drawn to the Orthodox faith, but have never been to an Orthodox church. My husband, unfortunately, does not understand this so I am having to back off rather than pursue this any further. I only pray that, if it is the will of the Lord that Orthodoxy is to be part of our life of faith, that He will somehow make it possible and bring it about. Please pray for us, that we will be led in the right path and be where we truly need to be. I shall continue to read what is here whenever I can. Thank you so much for your wonderful Christian witness.

Office <office@goholycross.org> An open reply to Art Vogel (your e-mail address doesn't work) : There is no charge to listen to the webcast of the Divine Liturgy, save your own Internet connection costs. If you're worried that "RealAudio Player" has a fee connected to it - don't. "RealAudio Player" is a free download and allows you to listen to any "RealAudio" broadcast off the Internet. You can download it from the site mentioned on our webpage. ["Real Audio Player PLUS" with many more bells and whistles - DOES cost about $30 - but even then, you have a 30 day money back guarantee if it doesn't suit your needs.]

<arsinoe7@hotmail.com> I am an Anglo-Cypriot working and living in Greece. I have always known where the Truth lies although I let myself pass through hell before I admitted it to myself. Still I believe that I have learnt from everything that has happend to me. I don't kid myself. I am at the starting point and I expect that many things will happen in the future that will knock me back. I know one thing however. I love Jesus Christ with my heart and soul and I believe that He is the only way to salvation. At present I'm trying to help a brother of ours accept the Trinity, Ton Triadiko Theo. I have my own views on the subject (in line with our faith of course) but I welcome any other views. I would also like to mention that I have very recently visited the U.S.A. and I have realised that our faith is kept alive there and perhaps in a better state than Greece and Cyprus. I hope that all the Fathers there are kept in good health by the Lord so that we can keep our faith alive. With brotherly love Alexia

<orthodox@gso.infi.net> Christ Is Risen! What would it take to have the Liturgy, Vespers and other services Online so that it may be accessed 24 hours daily and 7 days a week. This would be a GREAT Blessing to those of us who are Homebound.. A Sinner Michael. PS: The Services held Online on the 14th of May was a Blessing for me even though I couldn't understand much of what was said because I only know English, but just to hear the services did much to lift my spirit.

e mail address using library
computer> thank you for putting the greek church on the internet. How many of you have ever visited a monestary> I went to St anthony of the desert monestary in florence arizona. It was a real involved experience. It's not easy being a munk.they have long hours. They get up at 12:30 a.m. and go to sleep at 8:30 p.m. They have greek services 365 days a year. they don't eat meat at all. mostly eat beans, potatos, pasta and some fish. It is a beautiful monestary. I think everyone should visit one at least once.
