Philoptochos

Adopt-a-Student

Metropolis of San Francisco Philoptochos Board and Supported by the Philoptochos Chapters of Metropolis of San Francisco

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another,
as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.   -1 Peter 4:10

Below are students from Hellenic College/Holy Cross Seminary that our Philoptochos has adopted. We are so proud to support this program and of these students!

Home Parish/City: Assumption, Scottsdale AZ
Patron Saint: St. Joshua
Nameday: 9/1
School: Holy Cross
Program: Master of Divinity

About Me:

I love teaching and interacting with the youth. I have been blessed to teach at the Highschool level the past eight years. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending my summer doing missions orientated work abroad. I enjoy a good cup of coffee and a book to pair with it. I also enjoy hiking and biking and the outdoors in general. I hope to improve on my Greek skills and better formulate my phronema. The goal of attending Holy Cross is to receive my Mdiv and then soon after enter into the priesthood with the intention of doing missions.

Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?

In five to ten years I would like to be serving as a priest at a school or orphanage. I was blessed with the opportunity to help out with Project Mexico this summer and I would love to play a part in seeing the mission of project Mexico be replicated in service to other orphans in need.

Joshau Rognstad
Alexander Stephen Karcher

Home Parish/City: Saint Anthony, Reno, NV
Patron Saint: Saint Alexander Nevsky
Nameday: 11/23
School: Holy Cross
Program: Master of Divinity

About Me:

I am a lover of language, history, philosophy, mythology. I am an ardent admirer of people and ideas. I keep an open mind, but a watchful one. I could be more disciplined in the cultivation of good habits, more zealous in the pursuit of excellence, more eager in the sharing of the Love of Christ with my neighbors. I am devoted to Christ and His Church, and God willing, will grow ever more fully into His Life and His Love.

Where I see myself in five or ten years:

In five or ten years, if I am still alive, I hope to be serving the Church in whatever small way I can, God willing with a family of my own. What I know to be true is that life hardly ever turns out how it is imagined, and thank God for that. I have a rich imagination certainly, but it pales in comparison to the life God has given me.

Home Parish/City: St Basil, Stockton, CA
Patron Saint: St. Matthew
Nameday: 9/21
School: Hellenic College - Religious Studies

About Me:

I was born and raised at St Basil in Stockton California and from a young age always had a strong desire to be around the church. From serving the altar, to attending various events held by our metropolis such as FDF, St Nicholas summer camp, going to different festivals at different parishes, I always made these things my number one priority. This burning passion for the church life and the faith is why I hope to one day become a parish priest. Some things I would like to improve are definitely learning more and growing in our faith. I also would like to improve my greek, and also improve my chanting. Some things I would consider as strenghts of mine would be I'm a really great listener and I have a strong will.

Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?

I see myself in five years finishing my masters of divinity and hopefully moving back to California and becoming a pastoral assistant for a while. In 10 years I hope to be married and God willing to be oradianed a priest.
